The time has once again come to discuss my Spotify Wrapped for this year. It's December, Halloween is painfully over, and I'm wondering what I'm going to buy my family for the holidays that wont put me in some insane debt. My wonderful listening habits, however, are now ready to be put on blast for all to see. I also made some predictions from last year that we can compare and contrast, and overall just have a fun little time chatting about my listening habits this year - let's get to it then:

ree

Last year, I predicted that Sleep Token, Twenty One Pilots, L.S Dunes and some form of Midwest Emo band would make my top five... and I was sort of there, and sort of not. The one constant from last year is Boston Manor in the number three spot, holding strong against the other fluctuating artists. Always brilliant, always engaging, this band has been a real staple in my listening over the last few years, so much so I literally have gotten a tattoo off the back of it. They've had a brilliant year this year, and even though there hasn't been any new music since the release of Sundiver in 2024, that by no means makes their discography hard to listen to. They've also been really diligently touring throughout this year, and I hope I can catch them sometime next year - it's never a let down at a headlining BM gig.

Twenty One Pilots have lost their top spot from last year, but that by no means downplays the meteoric last few months they've had. Their latest record Breach released in September, and it instantly became one of the best albums of this year. Finishing off the Breach storyline, whilst also striking out on its own for the first time in almost a decade, the Ohio based two piece proved once again why they're one of the world's most impactful pop rock duos. After the release of Breach, I will admit I had it on a non stop repeat for at least a week, and have also been fondly revisiting their discography on long commutes or when doing day to day chores. I can't sing these guys praises enough, truly a generational talent that I'm truly grateful to get to enjoy.

Coming in at both 4 and 5 are brand new entries, let's start with Bring Me The Horizon. Remember earlier this year when I reviewed Post Human: Nex Gen? I decided to revisit it as I enjoyed a couple of the lead singles, but I ended up starting a fully blown hyperfixation on the record. For weeks straight it was all I listened to, and to this day I still revisit it when I need a dose of sheer chaos energy. Tracks like Dig It, Bullet with my Name On and Limosine all appear on my top tracks of this year, and for good reason - they go off. I'm glad that I'm enjoying these guys' music, and am also starting to delve into their earlier discography - so who knows, they might end up staying for a while.

At number 5 is PRESIDENT. Volatile, sonically diverse and truly an enigma, PRESIDENT truly captured my attention this year. After the release of their latest ep King of Terrors I found myself revisiting and re-listening to a bunch of their tracks. Full of heavy metal grunt, along with some awesome digital effects, these are some of the most palatable offerings from a new band I may have ever experienced, and I can't get enough of them at the moment. Catch me blasting Conclave in my headphones at all hours of the day... plus I'm catching them live next year! And my number one...?

ree

And, of course, at the number one spot, Sleep Token. I truly do not think a band has ever got me hook line and sinker like this four piece has. With their latest offering Even In Arcadia, they have added not only to their lore and deepened their entire aesthetic visage, they have also released a record that is the closest to perfection I think I have ever heard. I thought they'd have a tough time following up Take Me Back to Eden, but this new album is truly wonderful. Doubling down on all the things that made them amazing, the hefty breakdowns, blended stylings and enough emotional damage to twist the knife and salt the wounds, what's not to love? Sleep Token, to me, are in the pantheon of artists who have truly left a mark on my life, and I mean that with absolute certainty - and the way I've had Even in Arcadia on repeat definitely proves it. Spotify even told me I'm in their top 0.7% of listeners! Hopefully they make it back to London next year, I'm itching to see them!

So no L.S Dunes or Midwest Emo. I'm not all too surprised about the Dunes to be honest, although I adored Violet when it released, more exciting and dynamic releases have come out this year that caught my attention more - but I did get to meet them this year as well as enjoy them live on stage, both of which were amazing experiences I won't forget quickly. I am a little taken aback by the lack of Midwest Emo however, because anyone will know that I've listened to hours of it this winter - but I reckon it was too little too late, so we might be seeing it when wrapped 2026 comes around.

Let's have a peek at those top songs then...

ree

This is a story of two halves, let's start at the Sleep Token side - these four tracks are by far my favourites from the latest record. Both Damocles and Caramel were both singles, so I got a lot of time to spin them when they first came out. However, my personal favourite from that record is getting some deserved limelight Gethsemane. A beautiful track that moves and grows in only a way Sleep Token can nail with their signature bite and emotional breadth. It's full of some of the most vulnerable lyrical content from Vessel, baring his soul to the world in painfully honest words. It hits close to home, painfully so, and therein lies the beauty, and as it melds to the final verses where closure is hinted at, you realise how much of a ride you've been taken on. Past Self is also a brilliant song, and the perfect background track to a fast walk into the office. The entire album was consistently on repeat after it's release, for weeks on end really, so I'm glad that I get to celebrate these songs, and that they're on my top 5.

Number one goes to The Contract. The first single from Breach, this song caught my interest immediately. It was gritty, violent, at a crazy tempo and full of that genius lyricism I expect from Twenty One Pilots. The gap between this record and the next was pretty long, so I spinned it a total of 122 times since it came out. I love it, and although it's not my favourite from the record, it was what made me so excited for the album, and it's also a stellar song. No complaints from me that it's made it to the number one spot.

Reckon we should have a peek at albums next:

These all make a lot of sense, but there's one small outlier that I want to quickly talk about - and it's Don't Tell the Dog by James Marriott. This record is such a gem, a true indie pop banger, full of moments of both amazing energy and also some real vulnerability. Flexing his awesome vocal range and penmanship, Marriott made an absolute beauty of a record here, and one that I think everyone should be giving a go, it's such good music and so accessible.

Apart from that, the rest make a lot of sense. Both EIA and Breach were on daily repeat from the day they came out for at least a week, and I already said how much I hyperfixated on Post Human, and TMBTE is such a brilliant album I can't help but have a little throwback to it every now and again - I mean I have a tattoo of it too so... can't not really.

Next Year's Predictions

I was right about the sad toppling of Green Day and Fall Out Boy this year after I've had them on every wrapped since I got Spotify. I have been revisiting both bands quite recently for a nostalgia kick, but not enough to even show up on my top songs this year. I reckon it'll stay that way, even though I still have so much love for both these bands.

Again, Sleep Token and Twenty One Pilots will probably stick around - both Breach and EIA are such good records, they'll definitely be on repeat throughout next year. Hopefully some new music may be on the horizon for both, but I'm very contempt with their current offerings, so they'll stay strong on the top end of that roster come 2026.

PRESIDENT sit in a small grey spot - even though I'm seeing them next year, I don't know if their music will continue to be repayable. I love it, don't get me wrong, but I don't think I'll be spinning their music as much if there's nothing new to enjoy. However, I am seeing them live, so it might reignite the flame.

I'm in a similar spot with Bring Me, who knows if i'll keep listening to Post Human like I have been over the past year. I know that I am now, and I'm starting to dip my toe into their earlier tracks, so we shall have to see.

If I had to guess who might appear next year, I'll wager a lot that The Story so Far might be there. I am loving their music at the moment, and really enjoying doing a deep dive into their earlier records. Songs like Solo, Empty Space and Navy Blue are balancing out my melancholy winter mood with some awesome punk rock tracks - so it wouldn't surprise me if they appeared next year.

So, it's a lot of question marks for next year - but that's good! It's so exciting to have nothing in my head about what might come next, and truly have the door open for new artists and songs! I'm excited to see what happens, see new and old artists sneak back into my listening habits. Who knows what will be released, who will rise and who will flop, but we can count on wrapped dissecting it around this time next year!
