Another Slipknot article, i know, but trust me, this is exiting. News on new masks, new songs, and the release of the new album has all surfaced in the last few days, as well as some massive potential bombshells about the future of the band and its next era. Strap on in maggots, this is gonna be a bumpy ride.
Right, so I've got to preface this all by saying at this moment, this is all speculation unless I specify otherwise. Some of the things people may or may not have said are all things I've read online, and will cite sources and such to show you as much as I can, and try and explain my thought process. Now, Slipknot have released a few pictures of them in the studio, working on their new album. These images have been released through their fan club 'Outside The 9' where members have been given the opportunity to look into the bands recording process. Obviously, a lot of fans cant be bothered to get past the sorta hefty monthly fee to get hold of these, so those lucky enough to have an 'Outside The 9' subscription have shared the images online, especially on the Slipknot Subreddit. These images are 100 percent legit, and come straight from the band, and show two new song titles, one named 'Crazy' and the other 'Heirloom'. Both seem to be written performance notes on drum fills or something similar, and are both taken in black and white, like all of the pictures shown on 'Outside The 9'. Have a look:

Now, as were talking about drummers, I'm going to talk about the band and its line-up, because this is where things get a bit odd, and mildly exiting. Under the Heirloom image, the OP Queasy_Dragonfruit63 disclosed a lot of information about both the line-up and aesthetic of the new Slipknot project, claiming that they work closely with the band and is somehow involved with the recording of the new album. Have a read of this:
We can delve into the masks part in a second, but notice that they refer to Joey in this, as well as Jay, the two drummers we've had during Slipknots almost 30 year run. Could this mean that Joey Jordison is returning to Slipknot as he originally hoped to since being ousted from the band? It calls into question wether he is healthy enough to be back with the band and face the same gruelling touring with his underlying health conditions. But, Jay Weinburg is still apparently on that list. Two drummers? Who knows how that will pan out, but all i know is that if this really is true, then boy are we in for a treat.
Now, masks. We already knew Corey and Clown are due new masks as they usually change every album cycle, and we've already had a potential peek at Clowns new chrome mask. It's also no surprise Craig isn't changing his mask, as the nail laden Gimp hood is a bit of a staple at this point. Jim is also apparently sticking with his latest mask, which is good, because I think its a brilliant mask that really suits him. Now, what really shocks me here is that Mick is apparently getting a completely new mask. He's had the same style mask since self titled, which fills me with some doubt that this list is actually real. It's seemed that Micks mask is a staple of the band, similar to Craig, but also he could be wanting to shake his appearance up, and honestly I'm all for it. His mask, although cool, has been exactly the same, so something new may look cool, its more of a 'I never thought Mick was going to change his mask' approach than being Anti Micks new mask. Michael, or 'New Guy' is also apparently getting a completely new look, which I'm exited to potentially see. I think New Guy is a great musician, getting slept on a lot recently due to having to fill the boots of Chris Fehn, but I genuinely think he's great. Now (allegedly) that he's getting rid of the hood, we might finally get to see more of New Guy in the near future. Unsurprisingly, Sid and Clown both have new looks too, so I'm quietly looking forward to whatever crazy creation Sid has for his next mask. Remember however, we don't know how credible this source is, so I'm taking it as 'this is bullshit until proven otherwise, but if it is legit it would be really cool' standpoint.

Now, lets talk release dates, because a lot of dates and months are being thrown around, and Clown recently had an interview smashing all of our speculations into pieces. In an interview, he claimed Slipknot is aiming to finish the album by the end of July this year, and therefore its safe to assume the release will be pretty soon after. This year? That completely blows my idea about early/mid next year completely out of the water, but I really don't mind. Any new Slipknot content is welcome as far as I'm concerned, and this is just adding fuel to the already raging fire of anticipation. WANYK took five years in the making, so its surprising to see that this album has taken less time, but again, it just screams that this is music that the band want to get out into the world soon. Its music that their proud of and want to share with their fans - not saying that the other albums haven't been the same, but again this new record is the last one from Roadrunner as their label, so I'm expecting some off the hook shit, but I could also understand if this is a 'Father of All'. Slipknot could be trying to move away from Roadrunner so they can have full creative freedom, and if that means a smaller album but with some real powerhouse music, I won't mind.
So, exiting stuff potentially in the pipeline, and if some of it is verified then its going to be one hell of an album cycle, but again, I'm taking this news quite liberally. We have no idea if this unknown redditor is really associated with Slipknot, so for all we know this could be complete bullshit, lets just hope not. I'm sure we're gonna find out soon however, as it seems the new record might just be waiting over the horizon.
