We're back at it, talking through some more of my record collection, which is still growing thanks to the release of Clancy. Let's take a peek at another five shall we?
Take This to Your Grave - Fall Out Boy - Silver
Thank goodness for Fueled By Ramen turning 25, because I thought I'd have to bite my tongue and never get a decent copy of Take This to Your Grave on vinyl. For a record that I love so dearly, and had such an impact on my music taste that to this day I still return to this record for the sweet sweet nostalgia, I felt a simple black version just wouldn't do it justice. But this pressing came along, and I jumped on it, buying a copy, I think, from my local HMV. I could be wrong however, it might have just been an amazon purchase, but whatever, it's a great pressing of an awesome record.
Datura - Boston Manor - Transparent Blue /1000
On the topic of HMV, I'm on my local one a lot, if not for anything specific, I'm usually staring at all the records I'd like to add to my collection. On this day, I decided to have a look through their sale bins, which usually have some absolute stinkers in there that no one wants for some pretty meh prices. I wouldn't call this album a stinker however, and as soon as I saw it, down to something like £19 I grabbed it and held onto it like it was the holy grail. It's also labelled as one of only a thousand printed in the world, so that's pretty damn awesome. Plus, the cherry on top is that this album is awesome.
The Jaws of Life - Pierce the Veil - 'Natural' Pressing
Again, back to HMV, I asked some employees on the day this record came out whether they had it in stock, and they told me they had a limited edition pressing of it on the way in gold. Sounds cool right? Well, they also ended up slapping an insane price tag on it, something around the £35 mark. So what shop did I fall back on? My favourite record store in the world, Banquet Records in Kingston. They had this 'natural' pressing, which is just a really cool splatter-esque green/yellow mixture that was some really cool random colours in it, as well as a signed art card by the band, all cheaper than the HMV price tag. How good is that? The art card is still on my mantlepiece, even if Vic Fuentes' signature is black pen on his black jacket. Cmon dude. Use silver.
Past Lives - Past Lives - Orange
We're once again returning to our good friend HMV - sensing a trend? - I was on a hunt for this record for a while, and in my local HMV they had a pink pressing that I was seriously debating picking up, so much so that once we had got to the point where me and my friends were going to leave I said 'I'm just going to run back to HMV and grab that record real fast'. And, lucky me, I got back and it was gone. Poof. So, I gave it a google to see what else they had, and on Amazon there was this, with a special edition protective sleeve that came with it. The orange is so vibrant, and again it's a dope record, and one that I'm really proud to own.
Take Me Back to Eden - Sleep Token - Glow in the Dark Pressing
This record was bought for me by my brother for my birthday, I think my 19th. I remember being really excited for this one to arrive, and told by him that I wasn't to open it till my birthday eventually came around, because he bought it beforehand so I wouldn't miss out on the pressing. It came, and I waited patiently for my birthday to roll around before finally spinning it, and excitedly checking to see if it really did glow. It does after it charges in some direct sunlight for a bit, but the best reaction is when you use a blacklight, and it glows a real vibrant green. Such a cool variant.
Another five gone. Hope you enjoyed these mildly HMV centric stories - more stuff is on the way soon, including a deep dive into the work of Black Flag, so look out for that in the coming week or so, because these guys have seven studio albums and I'm listening to all of em.
